SCAPES | Black Paintings | The landscape goes beyond the physical territory. It is a contemplative state, a mental space and an emotional place. In other words they are escapes, places of escape, emotional catharsis and doors opening to other dimensional planes.
“His black paintings rediscover the spaces calibrated in visual weights and symmetries of masses that redefine the relations of fullness and emptiness.
We find landscapes of solid menhirs, semi-dark atmospheres, succession of infinites, absences and opposition of spaces. There is constant restructuring of the composition planes and the chromatic condensation of black, gray and white to emphasize the atmospheric reciprocity.
The artist accounts for the tensions between the elementary schemes of empty spaces and their transitory qualities in the gravitation of matter, as well as the landscapes contained and the relationships between figure and background. “
“We experience the feeling that the air in those places encloses a thickness of silence, that in the darkness reigns an eternally unalterable serenity” Tanizaki.
